Brandon brings a wealth of experience focused on education and skills to the Empath Team. He leads the Empath Skill Taxonomy Manager product as well as development of the Empath Proficiency Library. Previously he was a co-chair of the CASE workgroup at 1EdTech (formerly IMS Global), product manager on OpenSALT and ACT SkillSuite and has contributed chapters and editing to publications on AI in Education and skills interoperability.

Lysa is Senior Vice President of Sales for Empath. She brings more than 25 years of SaaS sales, consulting and management experience.

Prior to joining EmPath, Lysa has held several sales roles with BetterUp, IBM Watson Talent, Korn Ferry, HireRight and Lee Hecht Harrison. Lysa is passionate about motivating teams to help customers solve business challenges through AI and machine learning.

Lysa earned a B.A. in Journalism and Public Relations from Temple University but continues her learning every day.

Carlos Gutierrez is a co-founder and CEO of Empath, Inc.

Previously, Secretary Gutierrez served as Chair of the Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategic advisory firm. Secretary Gutierrez served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce from 2005 to 2009 under President George W. Bush, where he worked with foreign government and business leaders to advance economic relationships, enhance trade, and promote U.S. exports. Secretary Gutierrez played a key role in the passage of landmark free trade agreements that remove trade barriers, expand export opportunities, and boost global investment.

Secretary Gutierrez spent nearly thirty years with Kellogg Company, a global manufacturer and marketer of well-known food brands. After assignments in Latin America, Canada, Asia, and the United States, he became President and Chief Executive Officer of Kellogg in 1999 − the youngest CEO in the company’s hundred-year history. In April 2000, he was named Chairman of the Board of Kellogg Company.

Secretary Gutierrez joined ASG from Citi, where he was Vice Chairman of the Institutional Clients Group and a member of the Senior Strategic Advisory Group.

He currently serves on the boards of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-India Business Council, the Boao Forum for Asia, Occidental Petroleum Corporation, Exelon Corporation, and MetLife.

Secretary Gutierrez was born in Havana, Cuba. He is married to Edilia and has three grown children.

He is based in Washington, DC.

Carlos leads Empath’s marketing efforts. He brings wide-ranging experience developing and executing effective growth strategies to the role of CMO.

Prior to joining Empath, Carlos served as Executive Director of the Ignite Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Saint Peter’s University. Previously, Carlos founded Highline Point Group, LLC. a strategic advisory firm. He has held roles within the Inter-American Development Bank, Clark Hill PLC, and the U.S. House of Representatives.

Carlos is a member of Golden Seeds, one of the most active early stage investment firms focused on women led businesses. An avid investor, Carlos has advised and invested in companies across various industries including financial services, education, hospitality, and cybersecurity.

He is a board member of Certifid, American Friends of Soroka, and Cuba Skate and serves on the advisory boards of Blue Star Indexes, Chloe Capital, and the Guarini School of Business at Saint Peter’s University. Carlos is a mentor in the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative and a member of the Jewish Lawyer’s Guild and the Council of Young Jewish Professionals. He is also a Presidential Leadership Scholar.

Carlos is a contributor to the Asia Times and The Times of Israel and his writing has been featured in The Jerusalem Post, HuffPost, CNBC, Univision, and El Pais.

He holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Deniz is an experienced Product Designer with a demonstrated history of working in the software industry. She has proven know-how to combine creative and usability viewpoints resulting in world-class web and mobile applications. Deniz has strong skills including UX UI design, wire-framing, prototyping, content management, brand identity, illustration, and photography.

Janelle is the Chief Customer Officer at Empath and leads customer acquisition and customer success. She is responsible for delivering a seamless and impactful end-to-end journey for Empath customers. She is a creative strategist & problem solver who is passionate about aligning corporate vision with operational efficiency. She is dedicated to the voice of the customer.

Janelle started her career in sales at ADP and has had the opportunity to work for several world-class organizations in many multi-faceted, customer-centric roles including revenue generation, customer success and operations. She is a strong leader with a love for HR Technology and for helping enterprise companies solve business challenges.

When she’s not on the job, Janelle coaches group exercise classes and enjoys spending time outdoors with her friends and family. Janelle holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University of California, Davis and resides in Reno, NV.

Adam is a seasoned machine learning technologist with decades of business experience. A serial CEO/CTO/VP Engineering/co-founder Adam initiated and participated in five skills-related technology standards (including defining the standard for skill-description of educational resources, LTI Resource Search). He also wrote what may be the first book on applied neural networks (Neural Networks in C++, Wiley. 1992). While at Microsoft, Adam managed the first enterprise-applied natural language product (Microsoft SQL Server English Query, 1995). Adam has been an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University and holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in Computer Science from George Mason University.
